Skiing on the Arlberg
The most beautiful side of St. Anton
The Arlberg is considered to be the pinnacle of skiing excitement and is valued all over Europe for a whole range of different qualities. From the large selection of perfect slopes to its history, which shaped the sport, to the nightlife in St. Anton: there are plenty of reasons to expire this skiing region in Tyrol and the Vorarlberg from the Sporthotel.
With 340 km of runs, almost 100 lifts and another 200 km of powder snow terrain you have arrived in one of the most beautiful and best ski resorts in the Alps.
A brief history of the Arlberg region
The Arlberg mountain range is a region of "firsts" for the sport of skiing:
- The first ski club was founded in Arlberg in 1901
- The first Arlberg race took place in 1904
- Hannes Schneider founded the first ski school in 1921
- The first Arlberg-Kandahar race took place here in 1928
- The first lifts were built (in St. Anton and Zürs) in 1937.
The reason for this development is quite simply: Arlberg is perfect for skiing. Guaranteed snow, the slopes, infrastructure, ... a great deal simply comes together here.
Ski schools and lessons in St. Anton
The Skischule Arlberg was one of the first in the world and is still one of the best. You can look forward to a wide range of courses and guaranteed training success after just a few sessions. It's not just group and private lessons for children and adults in skiing and snowboarding that are on offer though: quite a bit more can be learnt here from ski touring to cross-country skiing to heli-skiing and Telemark style.
Equipment hire and free ski storage
It doesn't get much more pleasant than this: as a guest at the Sporthotel St. Anton you have free ski storage right next to the Galzigbahn cable car bottom station. As a result you don't need to lug any equipment about or walk the 200 metres from the hotel in your ski boots.
If you need equipment hire you can also sort this out nearby. Alber Sport has a branch right next to the Sporthotel and the ski service is located right next to the Galzigbahn cable car bottom station. You can also get your sport equipment serviced there.
