Skiing on the Arlberg
The best side of St. Anton
The Arlberg is the peak of ski destinations, valued all over Europe for a diverse range of qualities. From the terrific selection of perfect slopes to its rich sporting history and the fabulous nightlife of St. Anton, there are plenty of reasons to explore this ski region in Tyrol and Vorarlberg from your base at the Sporthotel.
With a total 340km of groomed descents, almost 100 lifts and another 200 kilometres of navigable deep-snow slopes, you will be coming to one of the best and most beautiful ski regions in the Alps.
A brief history of the Arlberg
The Arlberg massif is the site of several important firsts for the sport of skiing:
- The first Arlberg Ski Club was established in 1901.
- The first Arlberg race took place in 1904.
- Hannes Schneider opened the first ski school in 1921.
- The first Arlberg-Kandahar race was held in 1928.
- The first lifts (in St. Anton and Zürs) were built in 1937.
Why here? That's an easy one: the Arlberg is the perfect place for skiing. Guaranteed snow, suitable slopes, facilities – the region has got it all.
Ski schools and lessons in St. Anton
The Arlberg Ski School was one of the first of its kind in the world, and it remains one of the very best. The school offers a wide range of lessons and guarantees success after just a few sessions. In addition to the usual selection of group and private ski or snowboard lessons for children or adults, you can also develop your skills in ski touring, cross-country skiing, heli-skiing and the Telemark style.
Equipment hire and a free ski depot
It doesn't get much more convenient: guests of the Sporthotel St. Anton enjoy access to a free ski depot at the Galzigbahn valley station. This means you don't have to lug your equipment the 200 metres to and from the hotel while wearing your ski boots.
If you need to hire any equipment, there are plenty of options nearby. Sport Alber has a branch right next to our Sporthotel, and ski service facilities are available at the Galzigbahn valley station. You can even have your equipment maintenance done there.
